WEST HAM have made their sixth summer signing of the transfer window with the recruitment of Sunderland defender George McCartney on a season long loan deal.
The Northern Ireland international left back spent two seasons at Upton Park during the seasons of 2006 – 2008 before his move to the stadium of light. During his time in East London , McCartney was voted runner up Hammer of the year by supporters, making 71 appearances for the Hammers.
McCartney spent last season on loan at Championship side Leeds United. He told the official West Ham website: “It is brilliant to be coming back. For me personally it will be great to be playing again for a club like West Ham. It is a big opportunity for me and I can’t wait to get started. I am looking forward to being part of the manager’s squad and the clubs push for promotion.”
George McCartney will wear the number 3 shirt this season as Sam Allardyce’s men look to get some points on the board against Doncaster this weekend.
