Relegation Blues

ALEX McLEISH admitted his side are in for a battle to stay in the top flight yesterday after losing at home to Fulham.
Birmingham suffered a 2-0 defeat at St.Andrews, after Brede Hangeland attacked from two set pieces heading home in the first ten minutes and later in the 49th minute. Mark Hughes Fulham side controlled the game and were on a high after coming off of an undefeated run, this confidence showed through the team with both Bobby Zamora and Andy Johnson causing problems up the field.
The result means that there is a dark cloud looming over St.Andrews ahead of the Premier Leagues final week. Birmingham go to White Hart Lane to face Tottenham next week, Brum need to get as many points as they can or they could be heading to the Championship.
Manager Alex McLeish told the Sun: “It’s a tough task to go to Spurs and win, but we’ve done it before. This wasn’t one of our best performances and we now face a battle to retain our Premier League status.”
If next weeks fixtures don’t go the blues way, Birmingham could be the first club to win a major competitive trophy and get relegated in the same season since Norwich in 1985. These are records the club surly don’t want to make.
